One important healthcare service that pharmacies in Ontario offer is the Minor Ailments Prescription service. Pharmacists can now prescribe drugs for common illnesses.

This service is intended to eliminate the need for a doctor’s appointment by giving patients easy access to the prescription drugs they require for mild illnesses.

Our pharmacy has a full-service minor ailments prescription program, and our skilled pharmacists can identify and handle a variety of minor medical issues. Patients can come into our pharmacy to speak with one of our pharmacists, who will assess their symptoms and recommend the best course of action.

• Candidal stomatitis (oral thrush)

• Herpes labialis (cold sores)

Minor ailments are described as health conditions that can be managed with minimal treatment and/or self-care strategies. Additional criteria include:

• Usually a short-term condition
• Lab results aren’t usually required
• Low risk of treatment masking underlying conditions
• No medication or medical history red flags that could suggest a more serious condition
• Only minimal or short-term follow-up is required
